The flag of Macedonia was adopted in 1995 after a dispute with Greece. Macedonia had adopted a new flag baring another sun design which was taken from an ancient source in Aigai. Greece considered the Vergina sun to be a Greek symbol. Greece started a year-long economic embargo to pressure Macedonia to remove the symbol from its flag which resulted in the current design.

The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
