With these you could add all the pouches you could possibly need to sustain in the short term as well as attach other protective components. Eventually these would go on to be replaced by the IOTV (improved outer tactical vest) in the newer OCP Multicam pattern in the 2010's.

These vests are absolutely the pinnacle of the GWOT era being absolutely covered in MOLLE MOLLE MOLLE! The sides have a lot of adjustment with easy straps you can pull on to tighten. Getting out of these is also super easy - the front has a hook & loop opening you can peel apart in a jiffy (and snap domes if you really want to stay glued shut). All complete in that lovely UCP 'camouflage'....yes!
